Tips on Preparing Public Testimony
When preparing testimony on behalf of a public bill or other political action, it is important to keep your message clear and concise. Read more for tips on how to structure your testimony and what information to include.
Note: Testimony is often limited to only 3 minutes per person.
Testimony should include:
- My name is
Anyone accompanying the witness should also introduce themselves
- We are here on behalf of (name group and/or coalition)
- I want to thank the Committee for this opportunity to testify
- Our group is (Describe briefy, including number of members)
- We support/oppose (insert bill number) because...
If you wish to suggest changes to the bill, now is a good time to do it.
If you have a fact sheet or information to supply, now is a good time to give it to the Committee members.
