Welcome to the NPAction Update.

The title of a recent conference, “Nonprofits at the Crossroads: A Summit for Board Members and Staff,” inspired a keynote address by Judith R. Saidel, Ph.D., about a series of studies on nonprofit involvement with government and government grants or contracts, and the impact on staff and board member relationships. The research raises some tough questions about public engagement and public funds. Saidel is Director, Center for Women in Government & Civil Society, and an Associate Professor of Public Administration & Policy, Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany, State University of New York. She has contributed her address, with additional observations, for NPAction.org readers.
